McTimoney Chiropractic

​The McTimoney method represents an alternative chiropractic treatment option that adopts a holistic whole body approach. This technique primarily focuses on addressing and preventing issues within the musculoskeletal system. 

This method of chiropractic treatment was originally developed by a gentleman named John McTimoney some time in the 1950s. It was firstly used on humans and then it was successfully adapted to be used on animals. 

McTimoney chiropractic is unique in its approach treatment due to the method in which the adjustments are applied. They are incredibly light, gentle and swift, using a series of high velocity low amplitude manipulations applied by the therapist's hands.

McTimoney adjustments are specifically applied to areas where there is evidence of skeletal misalignment throughout the spine, pelvis and joints. 

Once these adjustments have been applied, misalignments previously identified begin to realign and the body begins a series of physiological responses that continues over several days. These processes work by helping to decrease pain, improve mobility and restore range of motion.

This process has a whole body effect that will begin once the adjustment is applied. The nature of the adjustment will begin by initiating a myotatic response to the muscles that allows them to begin relaxing around the affected joint, this will then also affect other soft tissue structures surrounding the affected area such as the fascia, ligaments and tendons. This will furthermore stimulate the golgi tendon organs, a sensory receptor that will alter the afferent input received from the spinal cord altering the body's perception of pain ultimately affecting the central nervous system allowing the body the opportunity to adapt, heal, repair and restore range of motion.
